Job Description

It’s an exciting time to join the team here at AXA, with significant investment planned in all UK&I businesses to transform and deliver new digital services to our customers and streamline and automate our business processes. As a Lead Cloud Platform Engineer, you’ll bring strong Azure skills and expertise and play a major part in AXA UK’s cloud transformation and build best in class platform features and services.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. What you’ll be doing:  

  • Providing expert guidance and architectural recommendations to clients regarding Azure services and solutions 
  • Working as a technical lead to perform technical platform build activities including Azure and workload configuration for scaling, optimisation, and resilience
  • Ensuring our Platform Engineers develop and maintain knowledge of security controls and inform our implementation and configuration practices, highlighting non-conformance when identified 
  • Leading, developing and maintaining knowledge of the cloud and digital software platform best practice to inform design and strategic planning 
  • Ensuring that our platform engineering function supports the rapid development of business systems leading to increased business capability, reliability and security 
  • Responsibility for maintaining IT application infrastructure and technical documentation
  • Staying up to date with the latest Azure technologies and trends and evaluate their suitability and technical usage and governance requirements

What you’ll bring:  

 

  • Proven experience leading big implementations across several areas of technology within Azure 
  • Ability to coach and mentor the team, driving best practice throughout 
  • Background in system Azure architecture, networking, Windows and Linux configuration, DevOps or SRE roles 
  • Strong coding experience 
  • Proven ability to use initiative to deliver solutions to technical and business problems under tight deadlines 
  • Experience with web protocols such as TCP, DNS, HTTPS, web security mechanisms (e.g., SSL, Digital signatures), proxies, firewalls & application traffic management solutions 
  • Good knowledge of Azure DevOps based toolchains 
  • Write and deploy infrastructure as Code (IaC) /Configuration as Code (CaC) (Azure Resource Manager, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform or similar) 
  • Knowledge of automation tools and continuous delivery techniques with the ability to implement these into new environments 
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and trends in the Azure space
